Pain in the mouth, created by sharp points or other disease, can alter chewing patterns which may lead to a reduction in chewing and affect the general health of your horse. Signs of pain when eating may include spilling feed, head tilt, excessive salivation, quidding, slow eating or frequent mouth washing.
Dentistry relates to bit comfort, therefore good dentistry will maximise comfort under saddle. The bit can come into direct contact with the teeth so, it's important to have a maintained mouth. Signs of mouth pain may include head shaking/tossing, poor responsiveness to reins, head tilt to one side, head tossing, working 'behind' the bit or poor collection.
Early detection of disease or abnormalities ensures quick and effective treatment, which allows your horse to remain healthier for longer.
The longer your horse's teeth remain functional and disease free means the longer they can continue to enjoy being ridden and remain competitive.
